Increasing machining capacity with one more Mazak at Attard Engineering

Attard Engineering has added another Mazak, a Variaxis C-600, to their extensive machining capability.

Mazak Variaxis C 600 for Attard Engineering

Attard Engineering is a general manufacturing company with over 35 years’ experience in machining carbon steel, stainless steel, brass, aluminium and plastic, as well as other materials such as ceramic, titanium, and copper.

The company offers mass production of components alongside low to medium volume jobbing work.

In addition to CNC machining services, Attard also provides design, prototyping, reverse engineering, welding, metal fabrication, assembly, finishings and painting.

A one-stop, complete, high-quality service, shop based in Adelaide serving customers Australia-wide, including remote regions.

Attard’s machining capacity includes multiple medium to large Mazak CNC machines including bar fed and robot loaded lathes as well as 4 and 5 axis milling machines.

Yuan Liu, the Managing Director of Attard Engineering commented:

“Great to be a Mazak shop with all generation machines”

The addition of a Mazak Variaxis C-600 not only increases Attard’s overall production capacity, it also addresses expectations for increased machining speed, stability and power.

The Mazak Variaxis C-600 simultaneous 5-axis vertical machining center uses rigid C-frame construction, dual-supported tilting table and fast rapid traverse rates to reduce cycle times on demanding jobs.

The machine offers both front and side automatic door operation. The machine’s full front door opening gives outstanding, and ergonomical, user access. An automatic side door allows the addition of robotic part-loading systems to the single-pallet/table machine configuration.

Attard specified their Mazak Variaxis C-600 with the 12,000-rpm BT40 spindle and a 60-tool magazine. The 12,000-rpm spindle has a motor output of 11/11 kW (40%ED/cont.) and torque of 70/57.3 Nm (40%ED/cont.) and delivers a high cost-to-performance ratio and is well-suited for machining steel, cast iron and aluminium.

For control, the Variaxis C-600 is powered by Mazak's new Mazatrol SmoothAi CNC, developed specifically to maximize full five-axis machining performance while running peripheral functions. The Mazatrol SmoothAi control and associated software packages provide digital enhancements that add efficiency and value throughout the machining process with the power of artificial intelligence, machine learning and advanced data management technology.
